How to display subtitles
To display subtitles in video files you can use
DirectVobSub. Install DirectVobSub and name the subtitle file the same as the video
file (not the extention). Now subtitles will appear in Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic etc.!
Recommended media players (and also free)
| Media Player Classic - Home cinema | Very well working, up-to-date player with simple interface - bloatware free. Has internal subtitle viewer that works very well.
|
| | |
| VLC media player | Probably the most versatile player around - plays about anything with bits from anywhere ;) Has internal subtitle viewer (note that VLC ignores SubRip <b> (bold) and <i> (italic) formattings, but underline and font color works fine).

Problems with Visual sync/codecs?
Often problems with the Visual Sync feature in Subtitle Edit are caused by bad/conflicting/missing/old codecs (Codec packs are EVIL!).
Sometimes playback/seeking will not work properly, and this error message is also due to codecs problems:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040154): Class not registered.
My recommendation is to uninstall all codec packs, reboot, and then:
- Users with Windows 32-bit versions should just get ffdshow tryouts and Haali's matroska splitter for parsing the container formats
Matroska(.mkv) and MP4.
- Users with Windows 64-bit versions: Get the x64 version of ffdshow tryouts. Also get the Matroska Splitter and the MP4 Splitter
from Guliverkli2 - look under DirectShow Filters
(64-bit). You will need to register these manually: unpack to your systemfolder, and run regsvr32 via the command line, e.g. "regsvr32 MatroskaSplitter.ax" for the
Matroska Splitter.
If you have problems with a specific format/file try reading more about
Media Formats or try
GSpot.
