hi Nikse

The new release doesn't OCR serbian idx/sub subtitles at all. I tried copying the two .dll files but still the same. Subtitle Edit 3.2.3 beta3 works OK. I sent you the subtitles last time so you may try it yourself.

posted by nikse.dk at 12-15-01 4:15 PM
thx kalehrl, all portable versions had by mistake an older version of Tesseract included - should be fixed now.

Works OK now!
Thank you.

Feature Request:

A single sentence version of one of the existing common fixes -]
Fix subtitles with more than two lines (single sentence)

posted by nikse.dk at 12-18-01 8:00 PM
@sialivi: I do not quite understand, could you supply a few examples?

posted by sialivi at 12-18-01 8:58 PM
1)
At least,
until we reach
civilization.

2)
Brother,
are you all right?
I'm fine!

The first one is a single sentence so it's safe to merge into two lines. The 2nd has two sentences so it should be skipped, it's quite common for these to be two people speaking so I always check these manually.

posted by nikse.dk at 12-18-01 9:20 PM
@sialivi:You can also enable some syntax coloring in the listview via Settings.xml - e.g. for subtitles with more than two lines:
[ListViewSyntaxColorDuration]True[/ListViewSyntaxColorDuration]
[ListViewSyntaxColorLongLines]True[/ListViewSyntaxColorLongLines]
[ListViewSyntaxMoreThanTwoLines]True[/ListViewSyntaxMoreThanTwoLines]
[ListViewSyntaxColorOverlap]True[/ListViewSyntaxColorOverlap]

It's a test, but it looks like it's working...

add sinhala ocr render...i cant convert idx file srt format..pls add sinala language...thnxxxxxxx lot

posted by nikse.dk at 12-21-01 10:38 AM
@wikiya/aerun: Tesseract OCR can only use these languages.
If you need a language not available, then ask in the Tesseract forum.

Another option is to use the "Image compare ocr".

CMD Line howTo on:
(SubtitleEdit.exe;import plain text; saveAs captions.SRT)

Hi Nikse (emailed you too, before I found this site):
I find your program very useful, the only thing I wish the program
could 'expose/show' what the CMD-line might be doing, when we
choose different options. So if that would be a feature request
that you could think about doing, it would be GREAT.

From your doc'n, I see how this is done (convert SBV to SRT) --- THANK YOU:
SubtitleuEdit.exe /convert captions.sbv SubRip captions.srt

But if I want to do the following (not sure how it is done in CMD line)
(SubtitleEdit.exe;import plain text; saveAs captions.SRT)
The following is what I did the thru the GUI [but I LOVE to have the CMD line equivalent]:
SubtitleEdit.exe
then chose to "import plain text"
-splitting===> chose: one line is one subtitle (what if I wanted another option ie: auto-split-text)
checked-merge shortlines with continuation
checked-remove empty lines
checked-remove lines without letters
value chosen==>-gap between subtitles (miliseconds) 1000
value chosen==>-Duartion [auto] (what if I wanted another option ie: Fixed)

------ Appreciate your helpful feedback.

I'd also be interested in t he CMD line equivalent that Ahmad is asking about.

posted by menes at 12-31-01 11:16 PM
Hello,

I also agree that it would be great if we have the cmd line equivalent of:

1. Edit/Multiple Replace [all available options, patterns will be provided as argument(s)]and
2. Tools/Fix Common Errors (all available options)
3. Tools/Remove text from hearing impaired (all available options)
4. Change Casing (all available options)
5. Merge Short Lines (all available options)
6. Split Long Lines (all available options)

Doing that we could automate the processing of subtitles with a simple batch file.

I had previously requested as a new feature the ability of batch/mass processing of subtiltes through the GUI. This will not be necessary if we can execute Subtitle Edit through a DOS batch file!

I want also to report a regression objerved on the final 3.2.3: Sometimes after running "Fix Common Errors" the dialogs get behild the main window and you have to click the se window in order to bring it back. This is was fixed in beta3 (a flicker appeared but everytime the "fix common errors dialog" appeared in front). In 3.2.3 this "flicker" stopped but the dialog started again to appear (some times) behind the main window.

On linux 3.2.3 version, the subtitles are not displayed under the video, and the wave form doesn't scroll. So I would like to use VLC as video engine instead of MPlayer to see if it works better. But I can't choose VLC Media Player in settings. Only MPlayer can be selected even though VLC is installed on my system ?

Hi, i have a "bug fix request", using "Fix common errors" with "Fix overlapping display times", subtitle lines with same start and end time is suggested as overlapping, but in .ass files this is allowed without overlapping. In example:

Dialogue: 0,0:00:03.51,0:00:08.38,Default,,0000,0000,,Hey! Is this a overlapping sub?
Dialogue: 0,0:00:08.38,0:00:16.85,Default,,0000,0000,,No It's not!
Dialogue: 0,0:00:16.85,0:00:26.80,Default,,0000,0000,,But SE 3.2.3 would mark it as such :(

posted by nikse.dk at 12-08-02 8:23 PM
@mboy: As I understand it overlapping is fully allowed in .ass files?

But it would help if I allowed same end/start times? Only for .ass files?

posted by nikse.dk at 12-08-02 8:24 PM
@Fred: I also have problems with MPlayer now - I'll see if I can fix it soon.

"But it would help if I allowed same end/start times? Only for .ass files?" Yes, thats exactly what i was hoping for...

@mboy: Could you test this version?

I tested that version, and it's working exactly as i hoped :) Thanks...

Hi!
Nikse, could you add or "turn on"
mouse wheel in the text window?

It would be really appreciated!
Greetings!

posted by nikse.dk at 12-11-02 6:46 PM
Hi Leszek!

What should the mouse wheel do in the text window?

posted by Sean at 12-11-02 8:41 PM
I love this software! But I got in trouble when I use the feature of "select current subtitle while playing". If I play a long video and I select this option, the selected line will go down to the last line. In case the video come out before the subtitle, I cannot read the next line. If the selected line can automatically stay in the middle of the list, that is perfect.

posted by vmb at 12-11-02 11:09 PM
The middle of the list would be perfect for me too. Both for viewing and translation this option gives the best access to the context of the current subtitle. From the first line to some line on the middle of the screen and from some line on the middle of the screen to the end line it would be the selection that moves, the rest of time it would be the list that moves as the selection resting on the middle of the screen.

@Sean/vmb: Like this?

posted by Leszek at 12-12-02 11:58 AM
Ok, two reasons
1)
I receive from translator 50 sentences in Word.
I put 5-10 sentences into text window.
Then I start and stop video to place in the film one or two sentences.
Then I scroll down to see the rest and to cut it off.

2)
Sometimes I change translation (grammar)in the text window during my work. So I cut sentences to put it in the right order and sometimes I have 3-5 lines in there.
With mouse wheel it would be much easier to see if there is something left in the text window below.

I use arrows now, but with mouse scroll the work would be easier and faster.

Best regards! :)

@Sean & vmb
I agree with you concernig:
"select current subtitle while playing".

@Leszek: Could you test this version?

Both "select current subtitle while playing" and vertical scroll-bars should be fixed.

Within Options===] Show Line Breaks in List View "[br /]". I change it to null, then OK.
Then I do file-import plain text---keep all options as OK--and proceed, I still get line breaks in 'some' of my timed-text. I need no 'breaks' between each timed text/line. If I select more than one line, hit UNBREAK, only the first line will have breaks removed. It seems there is no easy way to UNBREAK all lines.
If there's a way, could you share?
Also appreciate a reply on my earlier comment: "CMD Line howTo on:
(SubtitleEdit.exe;import plain text; saveAs captions.SRT)", please.
BIG THANKS, for such a GREAT Application.

Sometimes, subtitles disappear after I save the file.
1) Enter the first subtitle.
2) Delete it.
3) Enter again the first subtitle.
4) Press Save. The subtitle disappears even if I hit Cancel.
This happens other times too after I hit Save. It's like it thinks that after the delete, there is no other subtitle in this place.
This happens with versions 3.2.2, 3.2.3 and WinXP/Win7.

posted by nikse.dk at 12-16-02 8:29 PM
@Ahmad: I might add a /convertplaintext... it will not make it in next version though.

>It seems there is no easy way to UNBREAK all lines.
You could select all lines in the list view (ctrl+a), right click, and choose "Remove line-breaks from selected lines".

Also, do test latest version which has many nice changes!

@nikse
The following would be really NICE:
SubtitleEdit.exe /convertplaintext plain.txt SubRip timedText.srt

I tried your version (3.2.4---indeed very many nice changes). Unfortunately, I hit the same issue.
I pulled in a plain text file, then hit the OK button a couple of times: I get to the screen wher I would do CTL-A to select all. Then I did UNBREAK (button-bottom-right). It still does the 1st instance (not all the lines, I'm afraid).

I can post the plain text file, for you to grab (and/or) include screen-shots if that helps.

Hi Nikse,

I think it would be helpful if with "Fix leading '...'" you could put a suboption "Fix ending '...' in a subtitle before".
(Maybe also specify a time between the 2 subtitles..hm)

For example:

00:00:00.000 00:00:01.000 Are you...
00:00:01.100 00:00:02.000 ...an angel?

==]

00:00:00.000 00:00:01.000 Are you
00:00:01.100 00:00:02.000 an angel?

Tnx!
