Now includes Dutch (thx minouhse), Italian (thx Maff), Portuguese (Brazil, thx XXXXXXXXXX), Japanese (thx Nardog), and Spanish (thx m2s).

Let me know if you experience crashes/bugs or have suggestions about default values or shortcuts.

It's a portable version (does not require installation) - upack to something like C:\Download\SE and run it from here.

some suggestions:
1st. In adjusting time by using Synchronization/Adjust All Time, when the start time or stop time is less than 0,please make it 0 automatically
2nd. When I Edit subtitle again after saving, please make the left of the status bar "Saved Subtitle..." empty, because when I want to save again,I can't recognise whether the subtitle is been saved successfully or not.

Sorry for my bad English.

Can't export to VobSub. SubtitleEdit throws the following exception:

@XceeD: Ups, the export to vobsub should not have been visible... it might be some time in the future though.

Next update will include Brazilian Portuguese :)

The word list under settings comes up blank (I have downloaded the dictionary and selected the language), and when attempting to start OCR the language field is blank in both the Tesseract and dictionary modules. I didn't do anything differently than I have with the prior 4 portable versions I have used. Is this due to user error or a known glitch. I do notice that the folder it unzips to has only one folder for the dictionary, whereas in prior versions there was folder for VobSub, Tesseract, language, and dictionary. Please advise. Regardless, I thank you for such a great program.

@Kenneth Kier: The "Tesseract" and the "Language" folders should still be there. What portable version are you using and how to you unpack it?

hi nikse

Is it possible to add a option not to add an empty space after '-'? By default, the empty space is added after a hyphen. If I check 'fix lines beginning with hyphen' they are completely removed. If I uncheck 'fix missing spaces' hyphens are OK but then some missing spaces are not fixed. I think empty spaces should not be added after a hyphen in the first place.

Hi Nikse.

Could a user adjust the audio volume by the mouse wheel while the video player is in focus?

you plan to support a speech recognition in the future? Amazing subtitle editor thanks.

Marry Christmas to all !

@kalehrl: I don't agree, but perhaps in a future version.

@vbm: Sorry, mouse and video player does not work well together as video players are third party controls.

@João: Thx, that would be an awesome feature indeed, but very difficult to make if even possible. Does anyone know any nice speech recognition libraries?

* "TextBox with current subtitle now shows cursor position."
Well, not exactly. "The counter" starts from 1 and "line length" starts from 0.

Mary Christmas, too!

posted by nikse.dk at 11-25-12 10:11 AM
@XeroCopy: Yes, the column number starts from 1, so last cursor position on the line will be twelve even though the line only has eleven characters:

Is that totally wrong?

I found this bug in both BETA 1 as BETA 3:
If I use characters like "ï", "é" and so on, Subtitle Edit replaces them for "?". When I type them, the correct character appears on screen, but when I save the sub, it changes them into the "?".
I did not have this problem in the 3.2 version.
Also the Dutch language does not seem to be included, as mentioned at the top.

posted by Regeer at 11-26-12 12:42 PM
Hmm... seems it could be something different about that character-problem. When I fall back to 3.2 version, that problem now also seems to occur...
Anyone got a solution?

posted by nikse.dk at 11-26-12 12:49 PM
Hi Regeer!

Yes, the Dutch language file is very new - get it here.

About the character encoding issue: Are you on WinXp? Try to use a unicode subtitle font like Lucida Sans Unicode/Times New Roman in your video player.

posted by Regeer at 11-26-12 12:53 PM
Already figured it out.
I turned off the "Auto detect ANSI encoding"
That seemed to do the trick.
Tnx for your answer!

@Regeer: Nice, good to know :)

Hi,
First of all, thanks for the great program.
I use 'Multiple replace' feature a lot and a keyboard shortcut would help me a lot. Thanks in advance for implementing it.
Also, either I am doing something wrong or the conversion between formats (sub to srt, eg) doesn't work?
Thanks again!

posted by nikse.dk at 11-30-12 7:53 PM
Hi zekerijah!

'Multiple replace' now has a configurable shortcut - here (edit: link fixed).

Conversion between formats should work fine - check source view or view the file in notepad.

Hi Nikse! Happy New Year :)

On the last link is only xml.

I find that Subtitle Edit 322 is more accurate when it comes to OCRing serbian latin subtitles that the latest beta version.

SE322:

SE323 beta:

@kalehrl: Could you possibly email me a copy of the sub in VobSub/sup fomat?
SE 3.2.3 uses a newer version of Tesseract...

posted by kalehrl at 12-01-01 5:47 PM
Sure! Here it is:

@kalehrl: Sorry, but you are right... The new Tesseract apparently handles some lines worse than the old tesseract!
But, if you use a dictionary ('sh' seems to be the correct one) when ocr'ing, SE will give better results:

PLANETARNI TuRlsTlcKl voolc
- MARS -
Šta morate obavezno da vidite?

Opening VOBSUB (and perhaps other non-text files) for compare cause a crash.
It would be good if there's a manual compare. Sometimes I need to compare some lines in SRT with original vob/idx.

posted by Majid at 12-02-01 9:24 AM
sorry I meant sub/idx

posted by nikse.dk at 12-02-01 7:13 PM
@Majid: Thx, SE should now display an error message instead of crashing: SubtitleEdit.zip

Portuguese (Portugal) language file is now available - thx Ricardo Perdigão :)

Hi Nikse!

1. If I try to open a matroska file with SE via Windows context menu or command line, I get this error message:

http://xmages.net/storage/10/1/0/6/b/upload/be51ac54.jpg

The first line means: File [path to folder]\["openFileDialog1" instead of file name] not found.

2. When SE imports a sub from a matroska, could it automatically load the same video as well?

posted by nikse.dk at 12-03-01 7:54 AM
Hi vmb!

Thx for reporting this :)
Should be fixed now.

posted by vmb at 12-03-01 12:31 PM
Hi Nikse!

Thank you! Some more issues.

1. If I open a matroska via Windows context menu or command line, the video is automatically loaded, but sub is not shown on the video window, list view is not scrolled and time indicator on the video window is not updated during the playing. Reloading the video via SE menu has no fixing effect.

2. If I open SE first and import a sub from matroska via SE menu, the video still is not loaded automatically. If I then load the video via SE menu, all is OK (sub showing, list scrolling, time updating).

I use DirectShow.

Sorry for annoying)

@Nikse:

Issue number 2 is fixed, thank you.

Case number 1 is still the same (buggy with all the sub-bugs). And now I have this exception on start:

(Tell me if any Russian text needs to be translated)

@vmb: Thx, nice testing (did work with VLC...). Another new version up - hopefully better!?

Hi! Seems to be a very good editor with this waveform feature. But unfortunately the program doesn't support audio files... Otherwise It could be a very good tool for creating lyrics, for example. I wish you could add audio support soon! :)

posted by nikse.dk at 12-09-01 9:04 AM
@Rafael: If you switch to VLC as video player (Options > Settings > Video player) you can use audio files.

posted by Rafael at 12-21-01 12:09 AM
Thank you so much! I first thought it wouldn't work because there is only one option that is to display 'video files'. But then I followed your suggestions and chose to display 'all types'. Now it's all perfect! It's definitely the best subtitle editor available! Thanks!

This is a great program, its been working fine the past week but now it has a defect. As of today, everytime I try to translate a subtitle file into english it starts translating , then all of a sudden I get a error message saying:

unhandled exception has occurred in your application. if you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.if you click quit, the application will close immediately.
unable to connect to the remote server

Please help, i have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times and still the same thing.
Thank You
