Hi, Nikse.

Many thanks for the last release.

Could I ask for drag-and-drop again please? The details are here: http://www.nikse.dk/Home/Details/634501566980000000#hrddf470be-f62d-4a14-96d5-1266a55f2e59

@SuperDre: "AppId is over the quota" means that MS has put a limit on how much you can translate :(
This sucks, but it seems that both MS and Google will be closing their free translation APIs.

@vmb: I've tried to add drag-and-drop here

Edit: Hold Ctrl down when you drag text from a textbox

Great work on 3.2.

Here's a new format I don't think is yet supported in Subtitle Edit (but I'm not sure it's finalized yet). WebVTT (Web Video Text Tracks)http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/webvtt.html

@nikse

Thank you for the drag-and-drop. There are some comments after testing.

1. If I press Ctrl first and then click the mouse to select, some weird text multiplying happens. The same happens if I select a text, then press Ctrl, then press mouse button to start dragging and release it by accident.

2. The common drag-and-drop usability: with Ctrl one copies text in other location (= copy and paste), without Ctrl one just relocates it (= cut and paste). Now I can only copy a word inside a text field, but can't move it in another part of sentence.

Could the simple drag-and-drop (text moving inside SE text field or drag-and-drop between applications) be released without Ctrl while Ctrl will be used only for text copying inside SE text field? It will unify the usability and facilitate the simple drag-and-drop (one can do it quick just by mouse while watching a movie with digital dictionary for example).

Hi vmb!

Hm, drag-and-drop in C# is very poor!

1. Should be fixed I hope.

2. OK, might work too... but SE cannot MOVE text to other programs - only copy.

New drag-and-drop version here.

Hi, nikse.

"Hm, drag-and-drop in C# is very poor!" What a pity(

1. "Should be fixed I hope." Yes, it is fixed.

2. "SE cannot MOVE text to other programs - only copy." That's OK, only copying is needed. However, in the new version, neither copying inside SE with Ctrl nor copying to other program without Ctrl work for me. Only simple moving inside text field and copying to other programs with Ctrl work (without Ctrl other programs show "not available" sign).

3. Now if I drag a word to the end of a sentence it is dropped in the place before the last sentence punctuation mark.

It will be fine if copying between programs could work without Ctrl while inside SE text field both moving without Ctrl and copying with Ctrl could be available. In addition, could the selection be preserved until dropping and could the cursor show the place of possible insertion while dragging? All these are features of a common drag-and-drop behavior in Windows text editors or browser text fields.

Sorry for so much requests. If you do not find the simple solutions or a simple library for drag-and-drop in C# (or may be there is another text widget type with default drag-and-drop), don't bother yourself too much. Even now, the SE drag-and-drop is very useful for me. Thank you very much for it.

Hi again nikse, great version as always :)

However, it seems that there's some kind of memory-leak when running the 'fix common errors'. I was editing a season of The simpsons (25 sub-files), and each time I open a file there is no increase in memory used, but when I run the 'fix common errors' the memory used increases, and is not released when opening a new file.

Thus, over time SubtitleEdit will consume a lot of memory if you don't close and reopen the program. It's easy to check .. just open a file run the fix-errors and open a new file (while checking memory usage in task manager).

Using 3.2 Stable

Thank you for your wonderful work!

I have one simple question.
When I use mouse-scroll in waveform window I'd like to have FF (not REW) when I scroll 'DOWN' and opposite - have REW, when I scroll "UP".

Is it possible to change this in the program (or code)?

Best regards!

@sialivi: Thx, latest update have some basic support for the WebVTT subtitle format

posted by nikse.dk at 11-16-10 7:25 PM
@vmb: Above update also contain latest changes to drag-and-drop. No drop-target-position marker (possible, but will require a lot of work), but selection should now be preserved.

Hi aMvEL!

Thx, I found a memory leak when closing the spell check (used e.g. in "Fix common OCR errors").
Is this better?

posted by aMvEL at 11-16-10 10:31 PM
Kudos on a quick fix, nikse...

It seems to be better now yes.

When opening a file and running fix common ocr errors it goes from ca. 16000 kB memory to ca. 25000 kB, and stays there regardless how many times you run the fix-function :).

Hi, nikse.

That one is very good. Thank you very much.

However I find out that some programs don't accept the drop. For example, the Word and Firefox do accept while ABBY Lingvo dictionary and some simple text editors don't accept. May be those application that accept text with format and metadata (html, rtf, doc etc) work with SE drag-and-drop correctly while those ones that need only text work with mistake. May be SE drag-and-drop lacks the pure text representation? You can test it with good old Windows Notepad (I have Windows XP).

posted by nikse.dk at 11-17-10 9:05 AM
@vmb: Perhaps Notepad and Lingvo do not support drag-n-drop?

posted by vmb at 11-17-10 11:50 AM
@nikse

Well, sorry, Notepad does not support. However Lingvo supports, I've translated with it many texts from many other applications. I see you can't test this program (it is big and proprietary and it has not a test vesion). Sorry for bothering. If only you will have a brain-wave about this issue, please, test it with me.

@Leszek: In latest update you should be able to find a setting under Waveform/spectrogram to control mouse wheel scroll direction.

@vmb: I've tried explicitly to set the format to text now [dataObject.SetText(_dragText, TextDataFormat.UnicodeText)] - any better?
Edit: Now SE will both supply Unicode and Ansi formats

posted by vmb at 11-17-10 1:36 PM
@nikse

Sorry, no better(
I've written to the Lingvo forum about the issue. If they reply to my question, I will inform you.

@Dany:

1) Many shortcuts (hotkeys) are available in settings - but more will be added!

2) Shortcut to set start time is there now.

3) Vertical zoom of waveform is now in shortcuts too.

I was wondering you were planning some batch-processing for future versions? I.e. changing frame rates for a whole season of subtitles, or ripping several vobsubs or something..

posted by nikse.dk at 11-17-10 9:09 PM
@aMvEL: It's not on my todo list. Frame rate conversion makes sense, but in my opinion vobsub and corrections makes little sense for batch processing as it requires human review while comparing new and old lines.

posted by vmb at 11-17-10 9:50 PM
Batch-processing for FPS conversion makes sense for me too. Need it every now and then.
